Khopra Ridge Trekking

The Khopra Ridge Trek, also known as the Khopra Danda Trek or Khopra Ridge Community Trek, is one of the least travel and least use trekking routes in Nepal. The Khopra Ridge Trek is a special and unique trek that gives travelers incredible mountain views, breathtaking scenery, and interactions with communities living amongst the mountains. Normally, the trek starts out of Nayapul, or Ghandruk, which can be easily access from Pokhara. Branches off from the Annapurna Base Camp trek to another, less traveled, destination, the Khopra Ridge Trek. Beauty of Khopra Trek The Khopra Ridge trek, takes you through lovely, wooded chausses and friendly remote villages; then onto the scenic rolling pastoral hills in full bloom of Rhododendron; then a nice interim stop in your trek to your lastly grab the ultimate trekked destination, Khopra Ridge. Once at the celebrated Khopra Ridge, trekkers will take in the view of views, the world’s most stunning panoramic view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains (Annapurna South, Nilgiri, Dhauligiri, sitting near the stunning Machapuchare “Fish Tail”) that cannot be found anywhere else in Nepal. Another exciting aspect of the trek is that trekkers are staying in cooperatively owned, and run lodging – owned and operated, by community people from surrounding villages. The Khopra Region lodges were built, by the locals as a way for the trekker to get to know their local community members, benefit from their hospitality, and ultimately connect, contribute and benefit the local livelihoods. The pilgrimage to Sacred Khayar Lake at 4620 metres may also be part of the adventure. The lake has remained peaceful, respectful, sacred, and holy to both Hindus and Buddhist. The trek in itself possibly on a good weather day may be equally enchanting, and exciting and thrilling because of the amazing sites along the route. It is definitely much less remote and more true to life than some of the more trekked areas of the Annapurna Region. It will take anywhere from 8-10 days from where you start to where you finish the trek; your time spent depends on your route/how you approach the trek. The terrain is mostly moderate walking but at a moderate pace on the trails, and zero discomfort with the hights (elevation absolutely can moderate the experience). You will be hiking established trails, and the climbing you will encounter mostly is scrambling but the movement is steep for most part – really good steps (climbing is more a ladder performance). The climbs are challenging, but accessible in some ways for many hikers today who are willing to encounter a challenge with comfort. Conclusion Khopra Ridge Trek is a beautiful alternative to the more popular Annapurna Base Camp and Ghorepani Poon Hill treks. With such breathtaking view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs, spiritual solitude of Khayar Lake, and potential of experiencing community-managed lodges. Trek that provides a mosaic of nature, hospitality and culture. The trek is ideal for trekkers who want quiet and serene mountain. You can view with a deeper experience of day-to-day local life.
