Day 2: - Kathmandu to (Ramechhap)- Lukla (2840m) - Phakding (2610m)

Early Morning Drive to Ramechhap airport then fly to Lukla airport by Twin Otter aircraft, the most renowned mountain airstrip in the world. On the flight you watch the rugged foothills give way to the snowline of the Himalayas many of the world’s highest mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Makalu & Cho-you (the world’s highest Himalayan range) may sometimes be seen from the window of the plane.

Once you are in Lukla this high-altitude trek begins by descending towards Phakding. Passing the small villages like Chiplung, Chaurikharka, Thadakosi, Ghat, etc. We stay there at Phakding. Approximately 3 hours walk.

Day 3: - Phakding – Namche Bazar (3445m).

The first day may have been surprisingly long for some, but staying at Phakding allows you to begin the ascent to Namche Bazaar first thing in the morning. Passing beautiful villages like Zamfutte, Toktok, Benkar, Monjo & Jorsalle gives you plenty of great photo stops & beautiful mountain scenery.

You are having the Lunch at Jorsalle right after entering into the Sagarmatha National Park (UNESCO) at Monjo. At about halfway up the Namche hill after the Hillary Bridge, A gap in the trees allows us to spy on Everest for the first time. If the weather is clear the top of the South-West Face will be just visible behind the long Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. A plume can often be seen stretching away from the very summit.

Namche is the most prosperous and the largest town in the Khumbu.

A bazaar (A local market) is held here every Saturday. The wares on display include grains and vegetables, tennis shoes and trinkets as well as hand-woven aprons and Tibetan boots. The Sherpa used to host traders from the foothills, as well as Tibetans from over the border. Thamserku (6648m), Kwangde Ri (6187m), and Khumbila (5707m) surround the natural bowl that Namche sits in. Approx. 6/7 hours hike.

Day 4: - NAMCHE BAZZAR- ACCLAMATIZATION DAY

You hike to the National Park headquarters after breakfast to see the magnificent view of Mt. Everest & 360-degree mountain view. Then hike to Syangbuche airstrip for superb views of the Himalayas & lower Dudhkoshi valley. See the mountains like Thamserku, Kangitega, Kusum Kangaroo, Kwangde (etc. Approx. 4 hours walk.

Day 5: - NAMCHE BAZAAR TO TENGBOCHE

Breakfast in Namche Bazaar fuels us for another day of trekking towards Everest Base Camp. Breathtaking views of the Himalayas – Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama-Dablam, Thamserku, cholatse, Tabuche Kwangde, etc. And some of the highlights not be missed. A short drop takes us to the riverside at Phungi Thanga then it’s across the Dudhkoshi River upwards through the forest pass.

Brace your legs for a continual uphill trek at this point, alternating between a gradual grade and some seriously steep ground! Our destination, Tengboche, is known as one of the most beautiful places in the Everest region. Its views which include Ama Dablam, are legendary. We’ll stop in on the Tengboche monastery, which is one of the largest in Khumbu. Nourish your spirit with a guided tour of the monastery grounds, followed by chanting and prayer with the resident Buddhist monks. Stay at Tengboche: 3,860m

Day 6: - TENGBOCHE TO DINGBOCHE/DEBOCHE

Your trek today kicks off with a walk through the rhododendron forest to Deboche followed by a bridge over the raging Imja Khola River. We’ll pass the valley wall and then traverse the plains to Pangboche village, the biggest settlement of Sherpas in the region.

Enjoy a great opportunity to observe a typical Sherpa village and have lunch with the locals at Somare Village about an hour’s walk from Pangboche. Our afternoon trek will be a difficult one, as the landscape gives way to dry & above tree line deserted mountains and we hike towards Dingboche(4,410m).

Day 7: - DINGBOCHE: REST AND ACCLIMATIZATION DAY

This is your chance to rest up before the last leg of our adventure! Spend a full day exploring Dingboche and the surrounding valleys, the latter of which links with Island Peak, the high passes of Amphu Lapcha, and Makalu Barun National Park.

Taking an optional trek by hiking up to Ngarshyang hill (5150m) to see the valleys will pay off in rewarding views, but taking it easy is the most important thing today. You’ll need your rest for another day of ascent tomorrow. Stay here at Dingboche Again(4410m).

Day 8: - DINGBOCHE TO LOBUCHE

From here the trek will move more gradually & a little more challenging due to the higher altitude. We’ll pass Dhugla, but not before a tough, steep walk to the top of a high hill. Here are the memorial stupas dedicated to the climbers and trekkers who lost their lives in the Everest expedition over the years.

The next part of our adventure brings over a little different mountain terrain to Lobuche, a small settlement with amazing views of Lobuche peak, Mt. Pumari, and giant Nuptse. Prepare to snuggle up for a cold night, as we are now almost three miles above sea level and the evenings can be downright chilly. Stay at Lobuche(4950m)

Day 9: - LOBUCHE TO GORAKSHEP AND EVEREST BASE CAMP, EBC TO GOREKSHEP

This is it! Our big day kicks off with an initial, relatively easy trek from Lobuche to Gorekshep. The subsequent, straight trail to Everest Base Camp is harder, involving rocky dunes and moraine, formed accumulation of unconsolidated glacial debris. On the way to our destination, we’ll approach the famed Khumbu Glacier and Icefall, located on the slopes of Everest.

At the Base Camp, our goal, you’ll have the chance (during the spring climbing season) to meet climbers attempting to scale the mountain’s summit. Break out your cameras for unbelievable views of breathtaking beauty. As the afternoon sun starts to wane, we’ll head back to Gorekshep for some much-needed rest after a grueling and busy day.

Day 10: - GOREKSHEP TO KALAPATHAR AND DZONGLA

We’ll wake before dawn today to trek towards Kalapathar(5,545m) (which means “black rock”) for a fiery, glorious sunrise over Mt. Everest. The day’s first light will illuminate your spectacular view of Nuptse Nup, Changtse, and Lhotse.

This may be, of the whole journey, your most opportune moment to snap amazing pictures of Everest and its neighboring peaks. Afterward, it’s back to Gorekshep for breakfast and down in the direction of Dzongla, our nighttime stop. Our pace will be a lot brisker as we descend, and the walking is easier going this way. Stay at Dzongla(4850m)

Day 11: - DZONGLA TO THANGKNAK VIA CHO-LA PASS

The day starts with an easy walk on a flat rock and across an arid valley. From there, we’ll ascent steep slopes heading towards Cho La Pass (5367m). The route is physically challenging even for pro hikers let alone beginners. It requires the trekker to use crampons to ascend slippery glaciers and loose rocks with ice.

From there, we’ll descend the trail to Thangna, passing the remote village of Phedi. The trek is 6 hours long and expects you to traverse mixed terrains with steep inclines. Along the path, it offers us a mesmerizing view of shimmering snow peaks and rugged hills.

Stay at Thangnak (4700m) .

Day 12: - THANGKNAK TO GOKYO

On this day, we’ll travel from Thangna to Gokyo, taking about 4 hours. The initial trip begins through glacial terrains made of ice and boulders. We’ll follow the trail from the west end of Ngozumpa Glacier, passing the first and second lakes.

On the eastern shore of Dudh Pokhari is the small village of Gokyo. It’s nestled right underneath the Gokyo Ri(5357m) The village has been commercialized with lodges and guesthouses aimed to facilitate visitors. Stay at Gokyo Lake(4,790m).

Day 13: - GOKYO TO GOKYO- RI than hike to DOLE

Gokyo Ri is one of the most trekable mountains with a moderate hiking trail. Located on the west of Ngozumpa Glacier, this side trek is more popular among hikers than the Gokyo Valley. They use it as an alternative trekking route and a practice ground to climb mountains.

The ascent to Gokyo Ri isn’t easy, with a continuous uphill walk just from the south of Taujun Lake. It features high cliffs and mountain ridges, which are incredibly difficult to climb. But, once reach the acme you’ll enjoy the magnificent scenery along with surrounding snow peaks.

Following the exploration, we’ll plummet the trail and continue the expedition from the base of Ngozumpa Glacier. After an hour of trek, we’ll cross the wild grazing field and trek along the Dudh Koshi River. On the way to the village, you’ll see the dramatic landscapes and yak pastures.

After hiking more than 8 km, we’ll arrive at Machhermo. The village lies in the Dudh Koshi River Valley below the terminal moraine of Ngozumpa Glacier. Machhermo welcomes visitors with the impressive scenery of lofty mountains and lush green farms hike to Dole & stay there(4050m).

Day 14: - MACHHARMO to NAMCHE

following the same trail as the previous one. We’ll make our way through Phortse Tenga where most trekkers stop for tea and lunch. From here, the trail runs through rhododendron and pine forests before going up to Mong-la.

You’ll find the routes relatively easy from the village. It’s mostly a downhill walk from Khumjung and therefore, doesn’t take much time to finish. A slow descent to the river valley and we’ll end up at Namche Bazaar(3440m)

Day15: - NAMCHE TO LUKLA

The hike to Lukla is easy compared to any other trek. Most of the walks are downhill through the densely forested area and some remote Sherpa villages. After a gentle descent to Bhote Koshi River and a leisurely walk, we’ll eventually end up at Lukla after a long hiking day from Namche Bazar. Overnight stay in a hotel at Lukla(2840m).

Day 16: - Morning flight back to Ramechhap from Lukla airport than drive to Kathmandu

After wrapping up Everest Base Camp, Cho La Pass, and Gokyo Trek, we’re now ready to go back to Kathmandu. We’ll take the morning flight out of Lukla, which lasts 18 minutes or so. EBC & Gokyo Valley Trek for Beginners

The EBC & Gokyo Valley Trek is considered challenging due to its high altitude, varying weather conditions, and demanding terrain. While it is a popular trek and achievable for many, it may not be the best choice for absolute beginners with no trekking or high-altitude experience. Here are some factors to consider:

Altitude

The trek takes you to high altitudes, and altitude sickness is a concern. It’s important to acclimatize properly, and individuals without previous experience at high elevations might find it more challenging.

Duration

The trek usually takes around 12 to 14 days, covering a considerable distance and involving several hours of trekking each day. Beginners may find the duration and daily distances challenging.

Terrain

The trail includes steep ascents and descents, rocky paths, and suspension bridges. While it doesn’t require technical climbing skills, a reasonable level of physical fitness and endurance is necessary.

Weather Conditions

Weather conditions in the Everest region can be unpredictable, with cold temperatures and the possibility of snow even during trekking seasons. Proper clothing and preparation are essential.

If you are a beginner but keen on trekking in Nepal, many other trekking options are more suitable for those with limited experience. The Annapurna region, for example, offers various trekking routes with diverse landscapes and less extreme altitudes, making it more accessible for beginners.

Before attempting any trek, especially in high-altitude regions like Everest, it’s crucial to:

  • Assess your fitness level.
  • Acquire basic trekking skills.
  • Spend time at higher altitudes gradually to acclimatize.
  • Consult with a healthcare professional regarding altitude-related health concerns.

If you’re determined to trek to Everest Base Camp and are a beginner, consider hiring an experienced guide and joining a trekking group for added support and safety.

Our Company Happy Mountain Nepal Pvt Ltd always gives priority to ensure the safety of our customers.

EBC & Gokyo Valley Trek is an Adventure Trekking in Nepal you must have a well-fitness level and be well prepared before you come to EBC & Gokyo Valley Trek it’s much better to go Swimming, Cycling, or walking every day 4 km or take the stairs instead of an elevator. Remember that no trek in the Himalayas is a stroll as all treks involve going up and down at altitude and that altitude affects everyone differently.

Money

It is better to bring the USD to Nepal because you can change it everywhere easily. You can exchange enough money for Nepalese Rupees to last the entire time of your trek before leaving Kathmandu. You can find the money exchange counters near your hotel and also get on trekking trails but they will take more commission. You have an option for withdrawing your cash on the ATMs in Kathmandu but they have limited transactions only & sometimes it may not work that easy as you have to get permission from your bank to use your card in a foreign land.

Tipping

Tipping is a personal and voluntary matter and tips are not included in the trip price, but those who will be working on this lifetime journey of EBC are expecting some tips as a measure of happiness/success to their Clint. You can directly reward them for their big support for your journey. Tipping has no limitation on specific rates so you can give tips as much as you like if they make you happy with your trip.

Insurance

It is an important part of the trip. Your Travel insurance is not included in the trip price. Your travel insurance must provide coverage against personal accident, medical expenses, emergency evacuation and repatriation (including helicopter evacuation), and personal liability. It includes trekking crews and also against personal accidents the company will have field staff Insurance for emergencies.

Health

There are no specific health-related requirements for travel to Nepal. However, for the trekking in the Himalayas, you are in excellent health with average physical fitness and have a positive attitude, self-confidence, and strong determination, you can accomplish this trek but you should consult your doctor for up-to-date information regarding vaccinations, high altitude medication and medications for any reasonably foreseeable illnesses whilst traveling in Nepal. Some parts of trekking have a small health post for emergency treatment with limited equipment, limited health workers, and medication. (Himalayan Rescue Associations) Be aware that some drugs, including anti-malarial, have side effects at altitude. Please discuss this carefully with your doctor.
Be aware that you will be in remote areas and away from medical facilities for some time during this trip. We strongly recommend that you carry a personal First Aid kit as well as sufficient quantities of any personal medical requirements (including a spare pair of glasses). Happy Mountain Nepal Field crew will also have a comprehensive first-aid kit through the EBC & Gokyo Valley Trek.

High Altitude Sickness

AMS (acute mountain sickness) is a serious issue. It is the result of the failure of the body to adapt to high altitude and can affect anyone, regardless of age or fitness. It usually occurs above 2,500 meters and the likelihood of being affected increases as you ascend. The way to reduce the effects of altitude is to ascend slowly, 300-500 meters per day above 3,000 meters until you have acclimatized. Poor acclimatization results in headache, nausea, sleeplessness, difficulty breathing, and swelling of fingers and glands. The only cure for AMS is to descend to a lower altitude and your guide’s decision on this matter is final. When you are planning to trek above 3,000 meters we recommend not walking faster. Walking slowly, drinking plenty of fluids, proper acclimatization is crucial. If you get altitude sickness or any health-related symptoms please consult with your guide/trip leader to go down at least 500 meters to recover.

Important Note

During the very Peak season, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has announced an air congestion issue in Kathmandu Airport for the flight operation to Lukla from Kathmandu. Most of the flights to Lukla will commence from Ramechhap Airport until further notice. The airport in Ramechhap is located 130km east of Kathmandu (approximately 4-5 hours drive).
